Set in stunning scenery on the shores of Loch Seaforth are Driftwood and Seaspray, two unique chalets inspired by the traditional Scottish bothy.
Whether you are a hiker looking for a central base to explore the beautiful Isles of Lewis and Harris, an outdoors enthusiast coming to find seals, otters and eagles or someone who simply wants to get away from it all, our bothies are for you.
Bothies are commonly places of shelter in remote places; four walls with a roof and little else. Old farm workers cottages far from the beaten track.
Our bothies have kept the spirit of simplicity while bringing comfort and refinement for those not so used to life in the hills.
Located in the small crofting village of Arivruaich, the bothies are conveniently positioned midway between the island ferry terminals of Stornoway in Lewis and Tarbert in Harris.
Although the bothies are a stone's throw from the loch shore with no one to overlook you, the A859 is at the end of the croft and the bus stop is five minutes walk away allowing easy access to the rest of the island.
Your Accommodation
Each Bothy has a bedroom and a bathroom.
The bedroom is furnished with a luxurious super king-sized bed, bed linen and towels. Tea and coffee is provided along with a kettle and a small fridge.
In the bathroom you will find a spacious walk-in shower and is large enough to hang any wet clothing.
The bothies are wonderfully cozy. Guests can sit and enjoy the amazing views while being cocooned by the Bothies thick stone walls and turf roof.
Each bothy has a wood burning stove and is supplied with firelighters, kindling and fuel. Guests are encouraged to light the fire and experience the stunning atmosphere.
The Bothies are linked by a covered courtyard between them. Here a Belfast sink and hot running water is provided for any washing up and an outdoor table and seating is available for guests to enjoy the everchanging scenery.
Cooking Facilities
The cooking facilities at the Bothies are unique and are provided outdoors beneath the covered courtyard between the Bothies.
A portable electric hob along with plates, cutlery, utensils and cookware are all provided free of charge for each Bothy. If you are travelling with your own camping stoves, it is possible to use these in the courtyard too. There is a small 40ltr fridge in each room for storing perishables.
The wood burning stove in each Bothy incorporates a small oven above the fire to allow small items such as delicious jacket potatoes or a steak pie to be baked.
A traditional BBQ is also offered with each bothy for a nightly charge.
Please bear in mind it will not always be possible to cook outdoors due to the beautiful but changeable Hebridean weather.
A continental style breakfast can be provided each morning on request. This includes warm bread, boiled eggs, muffins, fresh fruit, cheese, porridge, a selection of cereal, milk and fruit juice.
If your trip is a special occasion, please let us know and we will be happy to arrange welcome packs, champagne, flowers or restaurant bookings. If you have something particular in mind please just get in touch.
The Great Outdoors
The Bothies are all about finding your connection with the great outdoors.
Set in 5 acres of croft land on the shore of Upper Loch Seaforth, the uninterrupted views from the bedroom draw you out and into this prehistoric landscape.
From your bedroom window you can watch for the seals and otters that make Loch Seaforth their home. Keeping your eyes on the skies you could spot oyster catchers, hen harriers and buzzards. The stars of show however, have to be the white tailed eagles that make regular appearances around the Bothies.
The Bothies look out on a unspoilt and wild landscape that is never the same from one moment to the next.
